The class of 1974 from Halifax West High School held their 50th anniversary reunion July 12, 1974 and awarded the provincial high school chess champions from that year their belated trophies and certificates. The Class of 74 – 50 Year Reunion Committee created the awards for the event and presented them to Scott Brookfield, Gary M. Clarke, and Michael Naugler.
“For an unknown reason, they were never recognized for this achievement,” said reunion organizing committee member Pat Sword. “Since they never saw their trophy, we, on the reunion organizing committee, have purchased small individual trophies to present to each of the winners at our reunion dinner.”
Chess Nova Scotia congratulates the award recipients and commends the reunion committee for recognizing the achievements of chess players from the past who did not receive anything at the time for their efforts.
“We are all delighted that you will be posting their photo on the Chess Nova Scotia Facebook page and website,” said Sword. “Congratulations to the winners.”
